Trump Tower Evacuated Because of Suspicious Object

A suspicious package was discovered in Trump Tower in New York at 4:30 on Tuesday afternoon. The suspicious package was reported to authorities. It was in the atrium of Trump Tower, near the Nike Town store. The tower was evacuated and a sniffing dog was brought in by the police.

The sniffing dog sat down on the package, suggesting it contained an explosive. Surveillance clips on the other hand show that an unidentified boy visiting with his family accidentally left his backpack in the atrium. Not taking chances, a bomb squad was brought in and they found the package to be safe; it turned out to be a backpack full of toys.

Police tweeted, “Suspicious package at Trump Tower has been examined by NYPD Bomb Squad. Deemed to be an unattended bag and safe.”

Police allowed civilians back in the building, and Trump spokesperson Sean Spicer tweeted, “Back to work here at Trump Tower after a false alarm. Thanks NYPD.”

New York Police receive approximately 42 “suspicious package” reports a day, though it is rare that a suspicious package in fact turns out to be dangerous. As in Israel (and now the whole world) the policy for these items is “better safe than sorry”.

At the time of the bomb scare, President-elect Donald Trump himself was in his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida for the holidays.
