After the Palestinians saw the success in their getting UN to say the Temple Mount and the Western Wall has no ties to Jews or Judaism, their next step is the Machpela Caves in Hebron. In July the UNESCO world heritage conference will meet in Krakow and the Palestinians want the UNESCO world heritage committee to proclaim Hebron a Palestinian World Heritage Site.
In order to expedite this process that normally takes a few years, the Palestinians are sowing a whole slew of lies and accusations in the international forum about how our actions are endangering ‘their heritage site’ and action must be taken swiftly to stop this (nonexistent) crime from happening. One claim is Israel made a massive concrete barricade which is over what should be permitted. The barricade was done in cooperation with the Wakf. The other accusation is that we are endangering the site which defies any common sense. Why would we want to defile the site of our forefather’s burial place?
The obvious reason for these far out claims is to arouse public opinion against Israel and thus far the public doesn’t care to be confused with the facts. If the 21 member nations of the UNESCO world heritage committee believe what they hear whether or not it’s true they will vote accordingly and proclaim the Machpela Cave a Palestinian World Heritage Site.
This may not be too hard for them to do as most of the member nations can’t be accused of being Israel lovers. This is the list of committee members:
Angola, Azerbaijan, Burkina Faso, Croatia, Cuba, Finland, Indonesia, Jamaica, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Republic of Korea, Tunisia, Turkey, United Republic of Tanzania, Viet Nam, Zimbabwe (Courtesy of the UNESCO world heritage website)
If Israel fails to garner 1/3 of the committee states to vote in their favor which is almost impossible, the resolution may pass and the Palestinians may brazenly ask for custody of the site.
The truth is the Palestinian do have a heritage in Hebron.it dates back to 1929 when their forefathers slaughtered Jews in the 1929 riots. Jewish history goes back in Hebron about 3500 years when Abraham paid top price for the Machpela Caves to bury his wife Sarah.
So whose heritage is it really?
