When is a more appropriate time in the year to get rid of excess weight, if not in the summer? So if you, like many others are planning to start a new diet, especially if it is a protein diet – you should be aware of the research that was conducted on this matter.
A study was conducted at the university of Otago in New Zealand, which examined 84 participants between the ages of 18-65, who all had excess belly fat. The study found that a protein diet is the most beneficial and preferred method of weight loss, especially when it comes to people whose main concentration of fat is in their abdominal region.
This type of weight gain, also referred to as Metabolic Syndrome, is related to insulin. When this hormone is not functioning properly, insulin levels rise and the person feels a constant hunger, which he tries to satisfy by eating carbohydrates. By increasing the daily protein levels while still eating carbohydrates, hunger hormones will balance out and provide him with a feeling of satiety throughout the process.
Studies from three other universities; the University of Navarra in Spain, the University of Copenhagen in Denmark, and the Reykjavik University in Iceland, examined all the various types of diets that have been released till today, and formulated dietary recommendations based on their findings. Some of their recommendations include the intake of dietary fiber, calcium, minerals and antioxidants – all of which help reduce belly fats.
It is important to note that although this diet is varied and fairly simple to implement, due to its high protein level, there is a risk of it damaging the kidneys, increasing the level of cholesterol in the blood and decreasing bone density. Therefore, it is advisable to consult a physician or a clinical dietitian before beginning the process. The most essential proteins needed for a balanced diet are mainly contained in meat, fish, eggs, cheese, nuts and legumes.
