Another Hamas Tunnel Detected and Exploded by IDF

IDF spokesman, Brigadier General Ronen Manalis confirmed that the Air Force attacked and destroyed another Hamas tunnel. This tunnel went directly under the Kerem Shalom crossing from Israel into Gaza through which much food and supplies enter into Gaza. “This was a tunnel the Hamas dug from Egypt to Gaza… the 3rd tunnel destroyed in the past 2 months. We attacked the tunnel from the Palestinian side in Rafiah. The southern command, engineer corps and special corps are presently working in the Kerem Shalom Crossing.”

The tunnel is approximately 1.5 kilometers almost a mile long from Gaza to Egypt and for 180 meters runs under the Kerem Shalom crossing in Israeli territory. The crossing was closed for fear terrorists would come out and attack and/or smuggle weapons. Hamas denies it is their tunnel claiming it was dug by a Bedouin family.

Manalis says; “when it happens once you say it’s just something that happened, twice is a coincidence and 3 times says this is something methodical the Hamas is trying to do.  The IDF has the ability and technology to deal with this but there’s no magic solution rather a whole process. Thousands of tons of merchandise and produce pass through this crossing each day.”

Defense Minister Lieberman says: “The message to Hamas is to invest in the sanctity of life and not in tunnels of graves.”
