In March 2002, after the Twin Towers tragedy, while firemen were removing the debris from the South Tower, one of the firemen spotted something strange.
When he drew nearer, he was shocked to discover a piece of mangled steel with pages from the Bible stuck to it which has somehow survived the fiery heat of the incineration.
The inscription on the pages was from this week's portion, Mishpatim, and it read:
“A life for a life, an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a hand for a hand, a foot for a foot, a burn for a burn“.
When the fireman saw this amazing thing he took out his camera to document it.
This doesn't have to be explained as a favorable reaction to the outrageous destruction of the towers, but rather a hint that all those responsible would eventually pay the price for it. Although it took a number of years, the perpetrators, including the mastermind behind the act Osama Bin Laden, were eventually killed themselves.
