An indictment was handed down in the Jerusalem District Court against a gravestone company owner masquerading as the owner of cemetery plots.
To perpetrate his swindle, he used a different name and presented a fake certificate to prove that he represented a burial society. Unsuspecting clients thought they were buying cemetery plots and that their agent was going to keep the certificates on record until they needed the plots.
According to the indictment, from 2005-2014 the defendant sold at least 156 cemetery plots for a total amount of $1,455,000 to people who were seeking to buy them in advance. He claimed to own a total of 250 plots. The defendant also faces charges of money laundering.
