MK Yossi Beilin: Judaism is first in my life, before being Israeli

In an interview for a Channel One film about the exalted Torah scholar Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv who passed away four years ago, MK Yossi Beilin professed his deep connection to Judaism. Beilin, who is one of the heads of the Israel left, and an architect of the Oslo Accords, said, “Jewish eternity is important to me. I identify with this tribe, with this people and this nation more than anything else.

“For me, Judaism is the first thing in my life, even before being an Israeli. For me, Israel is a very important and wonderful tool to guarantee Jewish continuity. I think that only in Israel, total secular people like me can guarantee their Jewish survival, while in other places in the world — only assimilation awaits them.”

Beilin added that he wants his children to only marry Jews. “I don’t have to tell my kids ‘Don’t marry non-Jews’ because as a liberal, I can’t tell them such a thing. Nevertheless, I don’t want them to marry non-Jews, and the only way to guarantee it is that they are living here in Israel.”

Here is our advice for Yossi — embrace authentic, Torah-true Judaism! Then your kids will treasure their Jewish identity and want to marry Jews wherever they are in the world!
