In preparation for the tens of thousands of pilgrims who will be visiting the gravesite of Rabbi Nachman of Breslav in Uman for Rosh Hashana, Jewish volunteers are opening a local Shomrim branch in Uman to protect them from thefts and attacks.
The increasing number of home thefts, arson and attacks against Jews in the streets near Rabbi Nachman’s tomb in Uman, has spurred the local Breslav chassidic community to form a Shomrim branch to work in cooperation with local law enforcement agencies in Uman.
The new patrol will around the clock pan the streets and buildings near Rabbi Nachman’s Tomb to increase the security of all the pilgrims visiting Uman. They will also manage a hotline where people can report crimes taking place 24 hours a day.
