Rabbi Miki was killed in a drive-by shooting as he traveled on Route 60 with his family, close to the Otniel settlement where they lived. In the attack, Mark’s wife was seriously injured and two of his children were wounded.
IDF forces surrounded the house in the West Bank village of Surif, north of Hebron, where terrorist Muhammad al-Fakih, 29 was holed up.
When Fakih opened fire at the Israeli troops from inside the house, the IDF responded by firing at least one anti-tank missile. The building was destroyed in the missile strike and al-Fakih was killed. Kalashnikov-type weapons and improvised grenades were found in his home.
The IDF had arrested three men who were part of al-Fakih’s cell in planning the attack. One of them, 38-year-old Mohamed Majid Amaira, a member of the Palestinian Authority's security service, had provided investigators with information leading to the other cell members.
The two other men were al-Fakih's brother Sahib and their cousin Ma'ez. All the detainees belong to the Hamas terror group.
In preparation for the operation, Israeli forces shut down the electricity and internet connection near the village where the raid was taking place. Five Palestinians were injured as riots broke out during the operation, but no Israeli troops were hurt.
